...A LITTLE HISTORY
The
Garden House has a colourful history.
The Enniskillen/Fermanagh Lakeland area in
1939/1945 was a major staging area for the Battle of the Atlantic
and the invasion of Europe/D-Day.
St Angelo Airport and Castle Archdale was the base from where
American long-range Catalina flying boats were launched; which
famously discovered the German Battle ship Bismarck in the North
Atlantic this was later sunk by British Swordfish torpedo planes.
You may ask what has this all got to do with "The Garden
House?"
The premises were originally built as Military billets to house
American airmen who staffed and fought from these bases. After
World War II the buildings lay empty for many years all were
demolished except "The Garden House" which has been
lovingly renovated to make it the beautiful self-catering Cottage
that it is today.
